F Troop has a “Big Impact”

KANDAHAR, Afghanistan – F Battery, 2nd Regiment Royal Canadian Artillery has been busy. We have provided fire support to the 3rd Regiment, The Royal Canadian Regiment Battle Group and International Security Assistance Force partners throughout the area of operations since our arrival in Kandahar Province.
During the past two months, the gunners of F Troop have fired many rounds from their M-777 Howitzers. They have provided both lethal and non-lethal effects to the ground manoeuvre forces operating in their area. It is indeed a good time to be a Gunner, as the Guns have become an integral part of the Battle Group, providing decisive effects throughout the battlespace. Every day, the gunners are “taking post” to lay their guns on time and on target, and enabling the Battle Group to achieve their objectives.
“There are a host of challenges F Troop Gunners must contend with on a daily basis,” explained Capt Stu Evans, F Troop’s commander.
“Not only are we responsible for manning the M-777 Howitzers and delivering fire support, but we have several other important secondary duties, which include critical security tasks in the Forward Operating Base, as well as the ongoing maintenance of the troop’s vehicles and equipment.”
Although F Troop gunners miss their families at home, they remain focused on their tasks at hand. They are steadfast in their commitment to the mission to bring peace and prosperity to the people of Afghanistan.
The soldiers of F Troop are fiercely proud of their achievements. They are also proud to be representing the Artillery Corps, while doing their part for the Canadian Task Force and its partners. Moreover, they hope that they can continue to build on their recent achievements so they may return home secure in the knowledge they have done everything possible to ensure the success of the mission. Ubique!
