PORT-AU-PRINCE, HAITI- Sgt Robert Roy, medical technician with Canadian Forces Health Services (CFHS) and U.S. Navy Air Controller 3rd Class Edwin Alvarez carry a patient into the medical site at Cite de Soleil, during Exercise Continuing Promise 09. Seeking medical attention, the non-ambulatory man was brought in by his family on a weathered outdoor lounger.

Continuing Promise 09 is a U.S. Navy-led humanitarian and civil assistance mission to underserved areas of the Caribbean and Latin America. The exercise allows CFHS members the opportunity to gain valuable experience by dealing with medical realities in underserved areas of the world and responding to a wide range of medical needs. Furthermore it enables CF Health Services to maintain professional ties and interoperability with the caregivers of military allies and their civilian counterparts, ensuring that the ill and injured will benefit from the exchanges of healthcare knowledge from all parts of the world.
