Since October 2001, Canada has deployed 22 warships and 23,750 Army, Navy, and Air Force personnel in the international campaign against terrorism. Canadian ship-borne helicopters, patrol, and transport aircraft, have flown more than 5,500 sorties and at least 25,000 hours of mission flights.
Canada has deployed approximately 18,000 soldiers in Afghanistan. Since 2002, 97 members of the Canadian Forces, as well as a civilian political director from the Department of Foreign Affairs and International Trade, have lost their lives in Afghanistan.
