Colonel David Erickson

Canadian Forces Defence Cooperation Attaché (DCA)

Col Erickson joined the Canadian Forces in 1977 as an infantryman in the Royal New Brunswick Regiment. In 1978, he subsequently transferred to the Regular Forces into the Logistics Branch as an Army Officer and completed his Logistics training in 1980. He holds both the Supply and Finance specialities.

Colonel Erickson graduated from the University of New Brunswick in 1980 with a Bachelor of Business Administration degree (Economics). He is a graduate of Canadian Land Force Command and Staff College in Kingston, Ontario and the Canadian Forces College (Command and Staff Course) in Toronto, Ontario. In 2009, he graduated with a Masters of Science in National Resource Strategy from the Industrial College of the Armed Forces (National Defence University) at Fort McNair in Washington, D.C.

Colonel Erickson has served in the field as well as base and staff appointments within Command, Joint and National Headquarters: second in command Administration Company in 2 Service Battalion, Station Logistics Officer in Station Alert, Senior Finance Officer of the Army, J8 Finance Coordinator in the National Joint Staff, and Section Head for Military Pay and Allowances in National Defence Headquarters.

During 1999 to 2000, he was the Canadian Contingent Commander with the United Nations Disengagement Observer Force located on the Golan Heights in the Middle East where he commanded a Multi-national Logistics Battalion.

Promoted to Colonel in 2003, he was appointed as the Director of Material Management and Distribution within National Defence Headquarters. Here he was responsible for the Canadian Force’s strategic supply chain through the development and sustainment of policy and information systems, the coordination of supply chain operations and direct control of the Canadian Force’s two strategic supply depots.

In 2006, Colonel Erickson was appointed Commander of 2 Area Support Group. 2 Area Support Group is an Army support formation that is responsible for the coordination and delivery of Combat Service Support, Logistics, Communications, Information Management and Military Police for all Land Forces within the Province of Ontario.

In 2009, Colonel Erickson was appointed as the Defence Cooperation Attaché at the Canadian Embassy in Washington, D.C.
