Lieutenant-Colonel Hogan was born in Schefferville, Quebec, the son of a commercial helicopter pilot. He worked in the forest and oil industry in Alberta for several years prior to attending Mount Royal College in Calgary. After graduation, in 1987, he enrolled in the Canadian Forces as a Direct Entry Officer. Lt Col Hogan subsequently underwent undergraduate pilot training at No. 2 Canadian Forces Flying Training School Moose Jaw where he flew the CT-114 Tutor and, upon Wings graduation, was assigned to 405 (Maritime Patrol) Squadron, Greenwood, to fly the CP-140 Aurora.
While at 14 Wing Greenwood, Lt Col Hogan served on several Squadrons as a Mission Crew Commander, Instructor Pilot and Flight Evaluator concluding as Deputy Commanding Officer of the Maritime Patrol Standardization and Evaluation Team. In 2001, he was posted to 407 (MP) Sqn, Comox where he served as Chief Standards Officer and Deputy Commanding Officer. He deployed to south-west Asia in 2001 as the Operations Flight Commander of the Long Range Patrol detachment for Operation Apollo — Canada’s initial response to the war against terrorism. Shortly after returning he was posted to Canadian Forces College, Toronto, as a student on the CF Command and Staff Course.
In 2004, Lt Col Hogan was promoted to his present rank and posted to National Defense Headquarters Ottawa, as Director, International Training Programs, office of the Chief of the Air Staff. In 2006 Lt Col Hogan was appointed Commanding Officer, 407 (MP) Sqn, where he led the squadron in its transition to overland ISR operations.
Lt Col Hogan is presently the Assistant Air Attache at the Canadian Embassy in Washington, D.C. where he conducts liaison work between the Canadian Air Force and the United States Military air branches.
